  • The Great Gatsby By: F. Scott Fitzgerald
  • RISING ACTION
  • Setting: New York City (1920's)
  • Nick Carroway has recently moved east and visits his rich cousin Daisy and her husband Tom Buchanan for dinner.
  • RISING ACTION
  • The initial conflict appears to be internal as the narrator Nick struggles to retell the events of his life involving a man he admired named Gatsby.
  • CLIMAX
  • During dinner he learns that Tom is having an affair. Later, Nick is dragged along to his mistress' apartment
  • FALLING ACTION / RESOLUTION
  • Nick lives next door to a mysterious man that he later learns has been in love with Daisy for years. With Nick's help Jay Gatsby and Daisy are reunited.
  • Daisy attempts to leave Tom for Gatsby. However, things turn. When Daisy drives home from the city she runs over Myrtle, Tom's mistress.
  • In the end, Gatsby takes the fall and is shot by Myrtle's husband out of revenge. Nick is heartbroken and Daisy moves away as if nothing has happened.
