  • Reason
  • In the short story "Cask of Amontillado", by Edgar Allen Poe, The main character Montresor is sick, and tired of being bullied, and harassed, by Fortunato, so he conjures up a full proof plan to end Fortunato for good, also known as killing him, by buring him alive, and or burning him to death at the same time. He lured Fortunato in his catacombs by using his love of wine against him, he then chained him a little room, and made a wall around him, and right before he was done he dropped a torch in the room.
  • Textual Evidence
  • Montresor's revenge is not justified
  • Analysis
  • He never once told Fortunato how he felt or told him to stop his harassment. He just played it off like nothing and killed him, without hesitation, or remoarse.
  • Conclusion
  • 'I matched his screams in volume and strength until he grew still".
  • This quote shows how he didn't care how he was killing, a human he did it for fun and made a show out of out, by laughing, and taunting Fortunato, he had fun doing it, all because Fortunato disrespected him.
  • To bring it all together, Montresor's revenge was not justified, his reason was not logical enough, and he did not first take a less violent approach, for that level of revenge.
