He lured Fortunato in his catacombs by using his love of wine against him, he then chained him a little room, and made a wall around him, and right before he was done he dropped a torch in the room.
  • Textual Evidence
  • Montresor's revenge is not justified
  • Analysis
  • He never once told Fortunato how he felt or told him to stop his harassment. He just played it off like nothing and killed him, without hesitation, or remoarse.
  • Conclusion
  • 'I matched his screams in volume and strength until he grew still".
  • This quote shows how he didn't care how he was killing, a human he did it for fun and made a show out of out, by laughing, and taunting Fortunato, he had fun doing it, all because Fortunato disrespected him.
  • To bring it all together, Montresor's revenge was not justified, his reason was not logical enough, and he did not first take a less violent approach, for that level of revenge.
