How much longer until we get home?
Well, when we were in the card for 10 minutes, we were 11km from home. Then, when we were in the car for 15 minutes, we were 8km from home.
How does that tell me when we are going to be home?
You have to use the equation y=mx+b
y=mx+b m is the slope and b is the y-intercept. To solve for m, you have to use the equation y(2)-y(1)/x(2)-x(1). m= -3/5 b=17, so the equation used to solve this problem is y= -3/5x + 17, where x is the minutes driving and y is the kilometers from home.
Ok, so the equation y= -3/5x + 17 means that after 0 minutes of driving, we are 17km from home. Every kilometer, we are .6 minutes closer to home.
By the time you're done, we will already be home.
