Beowulf left the Danes after the threat bearing Grendel and his mother haas been executed. He and the Geats set back home to Geatland.
After Beowulf had returned his lord, Higlac, died, the throne was offered to Beowulf whom rejected it, for he was not the next in line, but his cousin, Herdred. Once Herdred died Beowulf ruled for fifty winters. Until a slave stole a cup from the stone tower of the dragon to make amends with his master.
The dragon woke, knowing that the slave stole a cup she went to look for him. Burning fields and homes on the way. Although she was never able to find him. Beowulf and Wiglaf fought the dragon.
