Formation of the U.S. Constitution
Unit 1 Project American Goverment
Hello I' here to tell you about the Story Behind and the Making of the U.S. Constitution
After the 13 colonies came to American they decided that they no longer wanted to be ruled by the King of England.
The colonists came to America because they felt that they were suppressed by British rule. Politically they didn’t have a say in anything because the King made all the rules, economically they felt they were over taxed, and on top of that, they had no religious freedom. But if you take away the laws of the King-there is no law- which is a problem.
So the Founding Fathers needed to create some laws . First it was the Articles of Confederation which united the 13 colonies that became 13 states and it gave them a set of laws to live by. But that wasn't enough. It was too weak because it lacked an execute branch of government, it had no national court system, every state had to agree to make an amendment, and it was up to the state as to whether they wanted to send men out for military purposes.
The Founding Father’s: John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Alexander Hamilton, John Jay, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and George Washington (Wikipedia, 2014), also known as the Framers created the U.S. Constitution during a summer in Philadelphia 1787 and “it took 2 years for all 13 states to ratify it” ( USHistory, 2014).
The U.S. Constitution was the new “blueprint of articles for a new kind of government based on the principles of separation of powers, checks and balances, and federalism” (USHistory, 2014). This became the “law of the land” which everyone must live by!
