Another key moment of Stella's gender is in scene two. During this scene, Blanche is getting ready in the bathroom while Stanley is in the bedroom. Stella tells Stanley "You come out with me while Blanche is getting dressed." To which Stanley responds with "Since when do you give me orders?"
Stanley's response to Stella's command shows that this isn't Stella's normal behavior. Stella always lets Stanley be in charge and make the decisions, while Stella obeys. This is what's expected of Stella as a woman living in the 1940's, and when Stella tried to be anything but, Stanley puts her back as the good, obedient wife she's supposed to be.
These two moments of Stella attempting to be different from the obedient housewife by trying to tell Stanley what to do, but then complying with her husband in the end shows that Stella is indeed the stereotypical housewife of the 1940's because in the end, Stella always obeys Stanley like the good housewife was meant to.
