  • Ghana's kingdom lasted from 500 C.E. to 1200 C.E. and was ruled by a king.
  • Camels helped greatly in developing the Trans-Saharan trade route .
  • Gold was very abundant in  an area south of Ghana called Wagnara
  • The gold miners here were extremely secretive and even today nobody knows where the mines actually are.
  • Salt miners in Taghaza would have to did trenches 3 feet down in order to get harvest the salt.
  • Traders were taxed every time they entered and left Ghana. These taxes helped fund the army to protect them.
  • Trade in Kumbi was the busiest in all of West Africa. You could find almost anything you wanted. Even slaves were easily obtainable. That man over there is trying to sell weapons
