  • Mary,Queen of Scots was born in 1542 the daughter of James V. At only a few days old she was crowned Queen of Scotland after her father died. 
  • At 5 years old Mary was sent away to her grandmother in Antoinette of Guise in France where she was brought up as catholic.
  • In 1558 15years old she married 14year old Francis (king of France) in Paris. Mary became Queen of France for a period of time after Henry II died however Francis died prematurely in 1560.
  • 1561 returned to Scotland (which is now Protestant) 1565 married Henry Stuart and they then have a son born in 1566 called James.  While having just had a child she was having an affair with Earl of Bothwell. 
  • In February 1567 her husband Darnley was found dead in Edinburgh after gunpowder exploded under his room.  Then in late April 1567 when Mary was returning from visiting her son back to Edinburgh Earl of Bothwell abducted her and took her to Dunbar castle.  He wanted to secure the thrown and marriage.
  • Then on May 6th they both returned to Edinburgh where Mary made Bothwell the Duke of Orkney and Marquis of Fife 12th May. Then by 15th May 1567 they were married, many people disagreed with the marriage as he had been accused of murdering her late husband. July 1567 impriosoned, May 1568 managed to escape fled across the border to England.
