  • Christopher Columbus was born in Genoa Italy in 1451
  • Genoa was a busy sea port and his dad was a wool merchant. The Columbus family hoped to get rich in trade. 
  • At the age of 13 Columbus went to sea and learned how to sail a wooden ship with sails and how to navigate using the sun and stars. 
  • He went to live in Spain. There is a story that says he swam to Spain after his ship got attacked by pirates.
  • 
  • Columbus thought that he could sail west 3,000 miles he would reach east Asia. Little did he know, the Americas were in the way.
  • 
  • So Columbus set sail on three ships, the Nina, the Pinta and the Santa Maria
  • Columbus thought he had reached India, so he called the people there Indians. Little did he know he was in America
  • Christopher Columbus is best known for "finding" America but that is not the only thing he did,  his journey started a large route that would bring many riches, spices, cultures and even diseases to all around the world.
