TIME TO GO TO WAR!!!
Germany sunk any ships travelling to any of their enemy nations, including those with Americans onboard. Germany was in favor of unrestricted submarine warfare. This angered the United States because they both wanted freedom of the seas, but U.S. needed Germany's cooperation.
Germany pledged to cease any surprise attacks on U.S. merchant vessels to prevent going to war with them. However, they did not live up to their pledge and soon picked up the warfare again.
Germany contacted Mexico and proposed that Mexico and Germany would be allies in the war if U.S. entered the war. Germany promised to help them get their land back. This fueled America's anger and led to their entrance into WW1.
