Pre-operational. ages 2-6/7. In this stage humans develop language and are self orientated around others. In this picture the child talks to his sister and wants her to play with him. But she can not, she needs to study. He wants things his way

Concrete Operational- Age 6/7-12/12. In this stage humans are no more self centered, they have reasoning, but can not interpret abstract problems. In this picture the kid understands why the sister can not play with him therefore he comes with a different idea. To read a book instead.

Formal Operational- Age 11/12-forward. In this stage humans can reason abstractly and theoretically in life. In the picture the teenager again wants the sister to play with him but she can not. So he comes up with an idea to help her out so that she can finish sooner. By that she can play with him, so they both win.
