Jean-Baptiste Grenouille was born and left for dead by his mother. HIs mither was killed for the neglect of him and his other 4 passed siblings. He was given to a wet nurse who couldn't bear to watch him any longer so he passed to Father Terrier. He thought of the child as evil and is passed across town to Madame Gaillard. Who was then given to Grimal.
Perfume Chapters 16-20
Grimal had a special place for Grenouille to sleep. In a closet that is. Every day Grenouille was put to work. He had a strong liking to odors and would smell them out til he knew exactly what the smell was. He smelled a pleasant scent of a girl and with no remorse, he strangled her and sniffed her body from head to toe. Baldini was the greatest perfumer in the city of Paris.
Perfume Chapters 21-25
Baldini feels his wishes of being the greatest perfumer is coming to an end when Pelissier makes a perfume called Amor and Psyche. He trys to recreate the scent to his make it his own for leather but fails to do so. Grenouille shows up with the leather and Baldini has a plan to keep Grenouille as an apprentice.
Since Grenouille has a keen nose for odors and can remember each scent, he begins to work for Baldini. Baldini gives him a bed and food. Grenouille's job is to create new perfumes. He is never to repeat them nor make a mistake. After such great progress, Grenouille becomes very ill and is on his deathbed. Baldini tells him where else you can make perfume in diff. ways.He gets better and is on the road.
As soon as Grenouille leaves, a war starts in Paris and Baldini and his wife parrish from their home being attacked and knocked down. Grenouille is making his way through town and is disgusted by the smell of human scent. He keeps walking til he reaches pure, clean air. He reaches the top of a mountain when finds this pure smell. He finds a cave in the mountain and starts to live there.
