T.L.O vs. The State Of NJ
This storyboard does not have a description.
Excuse me there is no smoking allowed in this school. Principals office NOW!
Young lady we are very disappointed with you. We expected better of you
IM GOING TO COURT!!!!!
The initial search of Terry's purse for cigarettes was reasonable, the Court said, based on the teacher's report that she'd been smoking in the bathroom. The discovery of rolling papers near the cigarettes in her purse created a reasonable suspicion that she possessed marijuana, the Court said, which justified further exploration. We favor with the school on this case. You are now under probation
The teacher catches T.L.O smoking in the bathroom and then gets sent to the principals office.
T.L.O admits to smoking in the bathroom when the police come but her parents say they had no reasonable doubt to search her purse and her parents take the case the to court
In court, the justices side with the school and T.L.O loses the case. She gets put under probation. This was an important case because it shows that schools can search is they have suspicion and they can also do searches to everyone or a group of people in the schol.
