  • Hey Dolores! Did you know I have diabetes? I was diagnosed when I was born!

  • Diabetes is actually a group of diseases characterized by abnormally high levels of glucose in the bloodstream.
  • I have type one diabetes so I have to take insulin several times a day and test my blood glucose level 3-4 times a day for the rest of my life.
  • Hey! We just learned about stem cells in Biology! Is there a way that they can help?
  • Well, scientists are still researching how beneficial they will be but, they are learning how injecting patients with pancreatic cells will produce and discharge insulin and other hormones.
  • Wow! That sure is interesting!
  • Some people have even debated the ethics of the stem cell procedure because it destroys human embryos.
