  • "The Tell-Tale Heart" is about a man who plots to kill an old man because the old man's eye vexes him. This story takes place in the old man's house, specifically in his chamber.
  • Climax
  • For seven nights, the man spied on the old man while he was sleeping. The man, however, cannot kill him because the old mans eyes are always closed.
  • Falling Action
  • The man claims that he loves the old man and it is only the eye that bothers him. On the eight night the old man wakes up to the man chuckle. The single ray of light from the lantern shows that the eye is open.
  • Resolution
  • Seeing this gives the man the rage he needs to carry out the deed. The man jumps on the old man and smothers him with a mattress. The old man is finally dead.
  • The man conceals the body by cutting off the arms, the legs, and then the head. He puts everything under the floor planks in the man's chamber. At four o'clock in the morning, the police arrive because one of the neighbors heard a scream.
