  • In Europe, the war was raging on. Britain was fighting to support France while Germany was advancing. Germany seemed to have the control of the war as they decimated any country in their way. The fate of the war rested on the US.
  • On December 7, 1941 a fleet of Japanese bombers flew past a naval port near Hawaii. They dropped bombs on the american ships which crippled the US fleet. The Japanese came with no warning and swiftly destroyed the US ships. This was the turning point in the US involvement in the war. Shortly after this, the US declared war on the Axis powers.
  • The US officially entered the war December 8, 1941. Industries changed into war product manufacture. Many people bought bonds and the recruitment was in full effect. The US was not going to back down.
  • The US went into full recruitment and drafted anyone who was over 18. Many kids would put stuffings in their shoes to be accepted in the draft. The US was all in and was going full steam ahead into Europe.
  • On August 6, 1945 the US dropped an a uranuim bomb named "Little boy" on the Hiroshima, Japan. This bomb decimated the city and left the people suffering. On August 9 the US dropped "Fat man" a plutonium bomb on the city of Nagasaki. On September 2, 1945 Japan surrendered and the war was officially over.
  • The US rejoiced as the war was now over. People flooded the streets with excitement. The toll to the war was a lot. Around 80 million people died. Both civilian and military men and women died. The US lost almost half a million soldiers with China losing 20 million people. On October 24, 1945 eight countries came together to create the United Nations. This unity of countries would punish countries whom contributed to the war and place restrictions on countries waiting to rebel. This war is to never be reproduced.
