The man that helped make things equal and that everyone had a chance was K'ung Fu-tzu or Confucius. He helped assist the poor people to become educated and some ended up in high positions in the government.
The five main things that Confucius taught to his students were trustworthiness, wisdom, sobriety, righteousness and kindness.
In addition to that, Confucius strongly believe in the Golden Rule, "Do not do to others what you would not want done to yourself".
Confucius believed that everyone should be treated equally and with respect, above or below your generation.
