Alcohol is a dangerous kind of depressant drug that inhibits motor control and causes many long term illnesses and problems such as becoming an alcoholic.
An alcoholic is someone who has a mental illness that requires one to depend on alcohol and they will go to extreme measures to get a drink of it. the dependency of alcohol is known as alcoholism.
Alcoholic's are usually in denial or are even unaware that they have a drinking problem even when they are told directly that they have a disease and they need to seek treatment.
There are many signs that someone is an alcoholic such as having problems in work or school or not showing up at all, you drink to forget or repress your feelings and emotions, you drink too much and blackout or forget parts of your day, you are physically hurting yourself, you're getting in trouble with the law because of your habit, and friends and family are worried about you because you may act different or do harm to yourself without realizing it.
Having someone who is addicted to alcohol in the family really negatively hurts the family, especially the children. An alcoholic usually becomes angry or aggravated both with and without alcohol and it causes physical or verbal abuse to the whole family. The family member addicted to alcohol is usually completely unaware that he or she is an alcoholic and continues to follow their destructive path.
In conclusion we see that alcohol can hurt anyone even if you aren't drinking it. Being an alcoholic is dangerous to you physically, mentally, and it most of all hurts your family and the ones who love you and why would you ever want to hurt the ones you love?
