  • Alternative School
  • Did you know  students with disabilities who exhibit chronic and high intensity problem behaviors are frequently educated in alternative education settings?!
  • 
  • Unfortunately, preliminary research indicates that student behavior may be negatively affected by placement in an alternative educational setting
  • 
  • Change needed to be made! 
  • 
  • Adopt a systemic change process that includes (a) identifying and documenting outcomes, which they referred to as their goals and vision; (b) using data to drive decision making; 
  • 
  • (c) selecting and implementing evidence-based practices matching academic tasks to students’ ability levels, increasing positive reinforcement, refining the token economy system, delivering the Second Step, social skills curriculum, increasing parental involvement, and augmenting bilingual supports;
  • 
  •  and (d) developing systems that promote sustainable implementation of the evidence-based practices with fidelity.
