Storyboard Text

  • How does our skin protect use from pathogens? It acts as a barrier between invaders (pathogens) and your body. Skin forms a waterproof mechanical barrier. Microorganisms that live all over your skin can’t get through your skin unless it’s broken.
  • Think of white blood cells as your immunity cells. In a sense, they are continually at war. They flow through your bloodstream to battle viruses, bacteria, and other foreign invaders that threaten your health. When your body is in distress and a particular area is under attack, white blood cells rush in to help destroy the harmful substance and prevent illness.
  • What does our white blood cells do and how do they kill germs?
  • What is an antibody and how does it work?
  • Oh I know! Antibodies function in three distinct ways. They bind directly to antigens, effectively coating the surface of the invader, in order to prevent pathogens from entering or damaging healthy body cells.
