  • Female Gametophyte
  • Female Gametophyte
  • Megaspore forms in the pistil of a flower (specifically in the ovary), and undergoes mitosis until it has 8 nuclei.
  • Male Gametophyte
  • 6 of the 8 nuclei migrate to opposite poles of the cell, leaving 2 nuclei at the center called pole nuclei.
  • Pollination
  • 1 of the nuclei nearest to the micropyle becomes the egg because it gives the sperm easier access.
  • Pollination
  • egg cell
  • Cells in the anther undergo meiosis to form microspores, which later undergoes mitosis to produce two nuclei cell that are separated and protected by a cell wall that'll aid in their movement.
  • male part
  • Double Fertilization: A pollen grain lands on the stigma and if it's compatible, double fertilization takes place and pollen form the pollen tube in the flower that leads to the ovary.
  • microsperm
  • Each pollen produces two sperms, one will fuse with the egg cell, forming a zygote, and the other sperm will accumulate/cluster/join the pole nuclei to form a cell with 3 set of chromosomes (3n) - which will develop into the cotyledon.
  • triploid cell
  • Deema Al-Hakbani Afaf Al-Tayeb 12C
  • zygote
