While the smaller group that went right settled into their new home. They are now called the Corsican red deer.
As time went on, generations passed, and both populations grew, the Corsican red deer began to look different. Their legs and antlers became shorter and their tails became longer.
Because the population had decreased by such a significant amount, the gene pool also lessened, leaving the Corsican red deer with very little genetic variation. This led to the rise of certain traits that weren't as prevalent prior to the separation of the original population.
This is known as Genetic Drift - more specifically, the founder effect!
