  • JAMES MADISON AND THE WAR OF 1812
  • James Madison was the president of the United States during the war of 1812. He was also the fourth president of the United States. He served from 1808 to 1816 and asked Congress for a declaration of war,
  • I am James Madison, the fourth president of the United States.
  • The American soldiers kept getting kidnapped by the British and force to join their navy. Also, Native Americans were given guns by the British to attack Americans. This made Americans mad, and gave them a reason to declare war.
  • Causes of the War of 1812
  • The British are forcing us into navy! War!
  • British and American ships battled in the Great lakes, as it was a location where the British had arms to fight the new war.

  • In Baltimore, British ships fired on fort Mc.Henry. Francis Scott Key was there, and after the night was over, he saw a US flag still standing and wrote the "Star-Spangled Banner"
  • The bombardment of fort Mc.Henry
  • The battle of New Orleans was a battle that instilled pride in the Americans. Andrew Jackson and his army decimated more than 2000 British soldiers, while only suffering 58 casualties. He was remembered that day as a war hero, even though this was fought 2 weeks after the war of 1812 was officially over

  • The war left a sense of patriotism and nationalism in the United States. To think they had beaten England twice in a war! After the war came a period of rejoice and happiness.
