  • Dress Shoppe
  • Middle class woman Mathilde Loisel believes she should be in a higher class than she is in and wants to have fancier things than what her clerk husband can provide for her.
  • 4. Development
  • Monsieur Loisel gets Mathilde an invitation to an upper-class party, but she does not want to go since she does not have anything fancy enough to wear.
  • 5. Climax
  • Madame Loisel believes that since she is in the middle class that she needs expensive things to not look foolish at the party such as a fancy dress and jewelry.
  • 6. Outcome / Resolution
  • After buying a new dress, Madame Loisel decides to borrow a diamond necklace from her higher class friend, Madame Forestier, and wears it to the party.
  • When Monsieur and Madame Loisel arrive home, they realize that the diamond necklace is no where to be found and go searching for it.
  • Ten years later, Mathilde meets Madame Forestier whom she returned an expensive replacement diamond necklace to, and is told that the necklace was not real diamonds and was barely worth anything!
