In the beginning of the poem, the speaker is sitting in his study, studying (obviously). He hears something at his door, thinking it's his love, Lenore, that had recently died. It is actually a raven at his window.
Let me in, bro.
The raven came and sat on a bust of the goddess of wisdom. The speaker asked what the bird's name was. It said, "Nevermore."
