Calypso liked Odysseus a lot. She forced him to stay with her and her servants on her island for years. He had a wife and son that he wanted to go home to but Calypso wanted him. Hermes told Calypso that she needed to let Odysseus go. As bad as she hated it, they built a boat and said their goodbyes.
At this point of the story, the Trogan War is over. Odysseus is the narrator telling about his trip back home.
Odysseus and his men get hungry and decide to stop to the next island to find food. They spread out to find any others that live there. They find some people that eat Lotus. Once they were offered the lotus, the men no longer wanted to leave the island but rather just eat more lotus.
