In this scene, Henry VIII, king of England, and his wife Catherine of Aragon are being guarded by their knights as they are searching for those in wrong doing or aren't following rules.
Women in the medieval lifetime were to respect and had to be obedient to their superior men. In this scene, Catherine is even kneeling down to her husband, the king. She is the first wife of the king.
Now it is my rightful time to take this reign from you, sister.
The king of England had his second wife beheaded due to the fact that she wasn't able to bear him a son in order to have a male heir. Elizabeth I was the daughter of the king and his late wife Anne Boleyn.
Henry VIII and his wife Catherine had only one surviving child through their 18 years of marriage. This child's name was Mary Tudor but his heir was still undecided seeing as he had no son to take his place. The Church settled with a compromise and had the church was under Henry's rule.
Elizabeth I, daughter of Anne Boleyn and Henry VIII, grew up in isolation yet she was well-respected for her intelligence. She was imprisoned and took the reign from her half-sister Mary but then became queen of England at the age of 25.
As Elizabeth became queen she enforced a series of reforms. This then became the Elizabethan Settlement and there was a compromise between Protestant and Catholic practices. During this time the satisfaction for the people ended the religious turmoil that had been going on. Her reign influenced and shaped the religious society.
