After staying the night on a deserted island across the ways, Odysseus and his men row towards the mainland. On the mainland Odysseus knows this is where a prodigious man lives.
After reaching the main land, Odysseus's men plead..
But Odysseus refused, he wants to see the caveman.
"Why not take the cheeses, get them stowed, come back, throw open all the pens, and make a run for it? We'll drive the kids and lambs aboard. We say put out again on salt water!" (Pg. 900)
Shortly after going inside the Cyclops's cave, he is angered with the men for coming inside. He decides to eat two of them. Also the Cyclops request the name of Odysseus. He responds, "Nohbdy."
Odysseus makes the Cyclops drunk with his fine wine, then stabs the beast right in his eye. He is blinded. Through all the commotion, he called for neighboring cyclops. Once they arrived they asked what is wrong, why do you cry sore on this starry night? Through the blinded beast's answer show's Odysseus's cunningness.
"Nohbdy, Nohbdy's tricked me, Nohbdy's ruined me!" (Pg. 907)
To escape the cave un-noticed, Odysseus puts a man under each of the Cyclops's rams when he puts them in the pasture for the day. The beast even feels and talks to the largest ram which is the one Odysseus is underneath.
"Cyclops, if ever mortal man inquire how you were put to shame and blinded, tell him Odysseus, raider of cities, took your eye: Laertes' son, whose home's on Ithaca!"(Pg. 911)
Odysseus and his remaining men make it back to the ship. They put some stiff-legged sheep aboard. They oared their ship far out from the island and Odysseus yells back to the blinded Cyclops. They have escaped the Island of the Cyclops.
