Mexican Whiteboy By: Matt de la Peña 2008 Devin O. 6th Hour English 10
The setting takes place in National City San Diego during the Summer out by a baseball field. "Danny eyes a group of guys playing stickball at the mouth of the cul de sac."pg.3
Danny Lopez is a kid who is half Mexican and half white who used to come San Diego and practice ball like he is today. He is staying with his cousin Sofia and Uncle. "His arm length is the reason he can fire a fastball so hard." Pg.1
His inner conflict is he always pinches himself to remind him he is real. His external conflict is there is a guy named Uno who does not like him. When it comes to baseball starting up I think Uno is going to be a problem. "Behind his back he grips his left wrist, digs his fingernails into the skin until a sharp pain floods his mind, makes him feel real."Pg.2
Uno is the antagonist of the story because he feels jealous towards Danny when Danny keeps on hitting his pitches and he later on hits Danny because he accidentally hit his brother with a bat to the face. "I pushed and yelled at him in Spanish and then I punched him right in the face, Dad."Pg.27
