  • The conflict in the story is man vs. man. Rains ford goes overboard and ends up on an island where a man wants to hunt him. "We will hunt tonight" (Connell 30).

  • The irony used in this story and in my example is verbal irony.The general tells Rainsford he wants to hunt with him. "He actually means he wants to hunt him" (Connell 30).
  • Literary Device
  • The point of view in this story is third person omniscient. "Rainsford sprang up quickly and went to the rail" (Connell 21).
  • Theme
  • This story uses many literary devices but a major one is it uses similes. "Tomorrow you will feel like a new man" (Connell 29).
  • This story also uses many metaphors as well as similes. "I have played the fox, now I must play the cat in the fable" (Connell 29).
  • The theme in this story is man vs. man. "Your brain against mine. Your strength and stamina against mine" (Connell 30).
