  • Inspiration
  • Siddartha was born on the full moon of May as a prince. He had the prophecy of great leadership - either a king, or a holy man. His father wanted him to be a king and gave his son everything he could want.
  • True Escape
  • "What lies beyond the palace walls?" he asked one day. Due to his dissatisfaction of what answers he got, the prince escaped the palace into the town. There he saw old age, illness and death.
  • Forest
  • A holy man was begging for arms - this gave Siddartha a new idea.
  • Buddha
  • He went to the forest, exchanged clothes for rags and starved himself. He found other men there who were making their bodies suffer for their spirits' freedom, and joined them. A lady offered him food thinking he was a tree spirit; he accepted.
  • Siddhartha spent 49 days thinking in the forest. He found a middle way - "The only way to achieve peace is to want nothing"
  • He realised that people should live in between pain and pleasure. Siddhartha became the Buddha.
