  • In stanza 1, the poem states that the narrator is explaining how his "two socks as soft as rabbits". The narrator is describing the texture of the socks, which are really soft. 
  • Theme and explanation
  • In stanza 1, the speaker  explains how his feet were like "two immense blackbirds, two cannons". The speaker was showing how he felt when he put on the socks.
  • Textual Evidence to support he Theme
  • "Beauty is twice beauty and what is good is doubly good when it is a matter of two socks made of wool in winter."
  • In stanza 1, the narrator say's that his feet "were fish made of wool". The narrator was demonstrating how his feet looked like two fish made of wool while wearing the socks.
  • The theme of the poem 'Ode To My Socks" is about how you should honor the simple and precious gifts in life. In stanza 1 shows how the narrator feels about the socks he was given. As well as in stanza 2 shows how he loves the socks and should keep them somewhere save. In both stanza's it demonstrates how the speaker honored the smallest thing.
  • Some examples that support the theme is "My feet were honored in this way by these heavenly socks" (stanza 1).  This supports the theme by how the narrator enjoyed the beautiful socks. Another example is "Beauty is twice beauty and what is good is doubly good, when it is matter of two socks made of wool in winter" (stanza 2). The narrator is talking how good things are twice better, in this situation is the socks he was given.
