Socs vs. Greasers
Sodapop shapes Ponyboy's character by understanding and protecting him. During the rumble Ponyboy got knocked out by a Soc and Sodapop jumped on the Soc to protect Ponyboy. Ponyboy realizes that his brother loves him and is helping him. This makes Ponyboy stronger because he understands Sodapop will always be there for him.
The Church shapes Ponyboy's personality and helps him because he doesn't have his brothers to depend on anymore. He only has Johnny there and has to be responsible for both of them. Ponyboy becomes more independent when he expresses his feelings to Johnny. He processes his problems and finally understands that his brothers do care for him and want the best for him.
In the beginning Ponyboy thought he needed to be careful around the Socs because they jumped them and beat up the Greasers. However, he meets Cherry and Randy, who are Socs', and he sees how many things in common they have. His relationship with the two Soc's change his point of view to see that everyone has problems no matter if you are rich or poor.
