  • Exposition
  • Inciting incident
  • and just what do you expect me to wear to this party? I need four hundred Francs at least for a dress.
  • I have the money, but please don't expect much more. I don't have a lot of money
  • Rising Action
  • The exposition takes place in an economically depressed France. There is a "slum" woman/wife, her husband, and her rich friend.
  • Climax
  • I lost your necklace at the party and I am very sorry for that. If you will give me time, my husband and I will repay you with a new necklace.
  • The inciting incident is when the husband comes home with an invitation to the party, to which the wife asks for money for a dress.
  • Falling action
  • The rising action is the dance and It leads up to the conflict as this was what the wife spent all the money preparing for. This is also building a bit of tension as the man is somewhat by his lonesome.
  • Resolution
  • I've finnaly repaid you, do you remember me?
  • I barely remember you. My you look so old. Did you actually get the necklace, The original was an imitation. You could've just bought one like it for five hundered francs.
  • The Wife soon loses the necklace and panics, she soon tells her friend about the ring and that she will buy a necklace in return for the lost necklace. This is the climax as it changes the main character.
  • The wife and the husband soon give up their old life of somewhat wealth to repay the debt. They spend all their money on a new necklace and both work two jobs. (husband not available due to time constraints.) This is falling action as it is lowering the drama of the climax.
  • The story ends with an aged wife talking to the rich friend and repaying her debt. The rich friend then remembers that the necklace was an imitation and apologizes for not telling the wife sooner. This is the resolution as it wraps up the story and ends all conflict.
