  • Odd Pay
  • What good does a little piece of paper do for my income?!
  • Massachusetts Debt
  • so you mean to tell me that just because you gave me a worthless piece of paper your taking my farm? its not my fault I can't pay for everything
  • August 29th
  • CLOSED
  • The people in the war were paid with certificates, the more you waited the more they were worth. Lots of people were mad and needed money then but they couldn't get it. This was stupid because they did a major thing for their country and all they got in return was a certificate. This made it very hard for them to live. This is why it was hard for veteran-farmers to live.
  • Sept. 25-28th
  • The state of Massachusetts was in so much debt that if the farmers couldn't pay right away, they would take their farm and land away. Many veteran-farmers thought that this was unfair. It also didn't make sense because the state was taking their farms and land. Basically, everything these guys did they were getting punished for. This is what happened when Massachusetts was in debt.
  • Shay's New Plan
  • On this date a group of farmers closed Hampshire County Court of Common Pleas. They closed these courts to stop the foreclosures of their farms. Lots of farms had already been shut down. The court was closed to save farms. So this is what happened when the Court of Common Pleas closed.
  • An Observation
  • On this day Shay revolted. Him and his crew of 600 men sat where the judicial court was supposed to sit. Someone had finally stood up to the laws. After this 4,400 troops had to protect the courts. I am with what Shay did and I'm glad it worked. This is what happened on Sept 25-28th.
  • Lets Revolt!
  • Shay had another plan up his sleeve. He was going to organize a surprise attack on the New Federal Arsenal in Springfield. There they would find all the weapons they needed. He expected the guards, fellow vets. who were in the same situation he was in give little resistance. Instead, they shot straight into Shay's men.
  • The guns are in there!
  • Back Away Now!
  • The writer of this article was Thomas Jefferson. He basically explained that if they were going to rebel he would do anything to stop them. I agree with Thomas that if they wanted to stop what the government was doing we should at least stop them or defend ourselves. Although I think some people may think what he wrote was unjust he just wanted safety against rioters.
  • "They were founded in ignorance not wickedness."
