  • The exposition of the story is when Montresor and Fortunato are introduced and Montresor talks about getting revenge on Fortunato for insulting him.
  • Climax
  • One example of rising action is when Montresor takes Fortunato into the catacombs to taste the Amontillado wine.
  • Falling Action
  • Another example of rising action is when Montresor tells Fortunato to come to the vault with him to taste the Amontillado wine.
  • Resolution
  • The climax is when they arrive in the catacombs but there is no Amontillado wine. Instead, there is an empty hole in the wall. Montresor chains Fortunato and starts to build up bricks to seal the hole.
  • As Montresor lays the last few bricks in place Fortunato screams for him to stop but Montresor ignores him and gets his revenge.
  • The resolution is when Montresor walks away listening to the sounds of the bells jingling on Fortunato's costume. He puts the bones back in the crypt claims that no one has disturbed them in many years.
