Storyboard Text

  • I was bored and decided to give old Sally Hayes a buzz. I'd known her for a long time and we'd necked before.
  • Swell. Listen. I was wondering if your were busy today. It's Sunday, but there's a matinee going on. Would you care to go?
  • Sally? It's me, Holden Caulfield. How are ya? (Salinger 105-106)
  • Holden! I'm fine. How are you?
  • I'd love to. Grand.
  • Bleggh... Grand. I hate that word. It's so phony.
  • Museum
  • My date with Sally wasn't 'till 2, so I took a long walk.
  • I wonder if Phoebe is here. I used to come here a lot when I was her age with the class. The best thing in that museum was that everything always stayed the same. (Salinger 121-122)
  • Oh! Fabulous!
  • What are we seeing?
  • The show wasn't as bad as some I've seen. It was on the crappy side though. You never saw so many phonies in your life. (Salinger 127-128)
  • The Lunts.
  • I knew she'd go mad when she heard we were seeing the Lunts. I just hope it isn't as bad as some other shows I've seen.
  • We should go ice skating at Radio City! You can rent those darling little skating skirts! (Salinger 128)
  • She just wants to see herself in one of those little skirts.
  • Sure. If you want to.
  • After skating...
  • Did you ever get fed up? I mean isn't school such a bore? It's full of phonies. Look, How would you like to get the hell out of here? (Salinger 130-121)
  • You can't do something like that. You can't. We're practically children! We can do those things after college and all.
  • Brr...
  • After fooling around in a bar that was depressing as hell, I wandered into Central Park. I knew that place like the back of my hand.
  • I imagined myself getting pneumonia and getting stuck in a goddamn cemetery surrounded by dead guys. Man, when you're dead, they really fix you up. I remembered Allie's funeral. I went to his grave with flowers a couple times, but I stopped. Who wants flowers when they're dead? (Salinger 154-155)
  • I wonder what the ducks are doing.
  • So cold...
  • Nooo, their wouldn't be oodles of places to go at all. It'd be entirely different! You don't see what I mean at all.
  • Maybe I don't! Maybe you don't, either. I'm going home.
