  • Hello, I'm Voltaire. You may know me if you know about philosophers. I'm the one who believes in freedom of speech and religious tolerance. I would like you to meet some of my friends.
  • I'm Jill and we are going to learn about the Enlightenment that happened in the 17th century.
  • I'm John Locke,I don't believe people are born good or evil.
  • Philosophers and what they believe in
  • I, Thomas Hobbes believe that people are naturally aggressive and that conflict is a normal part of human nature (qualities that characterize humankind).
  • I'm Montesquieu and I believe in the separation of powers. That's why we have a political system called the "3 branches of government."
  • This is what each believed in.
  • What are they doing? I think two are scared of the mouse and the other is trying to be friendly with it. What is wrong with some of these people?

  • Here, we are going to learn about our political systems. Thanks to Montesquieu we have a good developed government.
  • Legislative Branch-where laws are made and where treaties are approved.
  • Judicial Branch-It interprets the constitution, they review laws there,also they decide cases involving states' rights.
  • •Executive Branch-It's where laws are carried put and new ones are recommended.
  • The Enlightenment was during the 1600's through the 1800's. Voltaire believed that people should have the ability to say what they want and thought that people should be able to practice what religion they want to.
  • The heliocentric theory
  • I heard about the heliocentric theory. Can you tell me more about it please.
  • This is about the heliocentric theory. I consider this an important part of the enlightenment.
  • Hobbes believed people were born with aggression and that conflict was a natural thing. Montesquieu believed in separation of powers. Locke believed that people were not born good or evil.

  • And I helped it develop because I said that scientists should base their thinking on what they can observe and test.

  • Heliocentric means sun centered. Nicoluas Copernicus developed the heliocentric theory.
  • Well, the Heliocentric theory means that the sun is the center of the universe and not the Earth. So all other planets, including Earth, revolves around the sun.
  • Edward Jenner was the first person to use vaccinations. If he wouldn't have there is a possibility that we wouldn't have vaccinations to help us prevent diseases.
  • This is Edward Jenner being the first person to use vaccination. If it wasn't for him we might not have vaccinations today.
  • Hello, I'm Edward and I'm going to use something called a vaccination to keep you from getting a disease called smallpox.
  • Rene Descartes and Francis Bacon both helped to develop the scientific method that we still to this day use.
  • Thanks to Descartes and Bacon for developing the scientific method we are able to answer things about the physical world and our data and stuff is organized.
