Storyboard Text

  • No more cooking!!!
  • Oh, no!
  • "Future" Essay Due by Friday
  • What topic should I choose??? Ugh! I can't stop thinking about cooking!
  • Gladys, 11 years old, loves to cook secretly while her parents are not at home. One day during winter break while attempting to cook crème brûlée with a blowtorch, the curtains catch on fire. Her parents ban her from cooking and stop her allowance until new curtains are bought.
  • A week later, she returns to school. Her teacher, Ms. Quincy, assigns to the class a writing assignment about her future (what she wants to do when she grows up). She explains that the best essay will represent the class and will be given to the newspaper publisher company "The New York Standard", and whoever's article the judges pick will win money. Gladys tries to think of something she wants to do in the future, but can't think of anything without thinking about food or cooking. She finally decides to do one on being a vet. Her teacher tells her that her writing doesn't seem to have much passion. She visits her neighbor Sandy and reads a cover letter that Ms. Quincy wrote and sent her. Gladys decides to write something like a cover letter on pink paper as her essay about wanting to be a restaurant critic in the future. On a Friday afternoon, she finds out that she wins and her paper is sent to the "New York Standard".
  • Oh!
  • An intern for the New York Standard named Anastasia is assigned to go to the mail room to collect the essays, organize the titles into the computer, make 3 photocopies of each of the papers, and deliver papers to judges While on the second task, she sees Gladys’s pink paper, reads it and mistakens it for a real food critic cover letter. She gives it to the chief editor of dining section, Fiona Inglethorpe, instead of the judges. At school, Gladys finds out that she does not win. Back at the "New York Standard" building in New York City, Fiona finds out that her restaurant/food critic burns his tongue and cannot taste for a while. Since Fiona knows about Glady's "real" restaurant critic cover letter, she sends her an email asking her to send copies of her professional restaurant reviews. Gladys gets the email and thinks that it is fake, but later finds out that it is real. Gladys, with the help of Sandy, makes a restaurant review on "Mom and Pop's Kitchen" and "Singh Paradise" (Those places are not actually restaurants, ). She sends it to Fiona who assigns her another task.
  • Chocolate Tiramisu with Vanilla Ice Cream- $6.99 a slice!
  • Welcome to Classy Cakes!
  • Classic Chocolate Cake- $5.99 a slice!
  • Gladys is assigned to write a review about a dessert restaurant named Classy Cakes and it is in Manhattan. Gladys wants to go there and her parents never take her for dessert, so makes a call to her aunt Lydia in Paris to see if she could come and take her to Classy Cakes, but she can’t. Instead, Aunt Lydia gives her an idea to trick Gladys’s parents into taking her. The child asks her dad to take her with him to work in Manhattan, but he says no. Eventually, he says yes when she promises to behave. Her dad is a tax-collector, and when the day came, they went to the meetings that her dad had to attend. At the meetings, he was trying to convince companies to pay taxes. He is frustrated because they won't. Right before the final meeting in the lobby of the "New York Standard" building, Gladys refuses to follow her dad, afraid that someone will recognize her (Fiona). Her dad says that because of that choice, he is not taking her to Classy Cakes. Gladys is disappointed and she goes back home with an empty stomach.
  • At school the next day, Gladys's friend named Parm reminds her about a popular girl's birthday party whose name is Charissa. Gladys finds out that Charissa can take one person to watch a broadway show in NY City with her for her birthday. Gladys thinks of the perfect present to give the "birthday girl", and makes it later that day. She presents the Malaysian Peanut Pancake with nuts to Charissa the next day during lunch, and Charissa eats it and screams. She loves it so much that she questions Gladys about the pancake. Gladys decides to make more desserts for Charissa over the next few days, and Charissa has the same reaction. On Friday, she announces the lucky winner...Gladys!!!
  • A purple limo picks Gladys up the next day and takes her to the broadway show. At the show, Gladys waits to carry out her devilish plan of going to the restroom by herself and escaping to Classy Cakes. Unfortunately, during intermission, Charissa, and her mom want to go to the restroom with Gladys, so Gladys pretends to be sick to make them leave the restroom. The guest climbs out of a restroom stall and runs to Classy Cakes. Sadly, there is a 3-hour wait, so she runs back to the theater and catches the tail-end of the show. After the show ends, Charissa wants to go to have dessert at Classy Cakes, so she, her family, and Gladys go to there. Surprisingly, Charissa orders everything on the menu. After arriving home, Gladys writes and sends a review of Classy Cakes to Fiona, who loves it. On the review, she gives the restaurant all four stars.
