  • Friendship
  • Superstition
  • Lies & Deceit
  • Friendship is a very important theme in Huck Finn. Huck and Jim runaway together to find freedom. On their journey they build a strong bond with each other. They prove that true friendship is unconditional regardless of race, age, or social status
  • Adventure
  • Superstition plays an important role in Huck Finn. Both Jim and Huck believe in supernatural casualties and take them very seriously. Throughout the story superstition finds its way back to Huck and Jim (rattle-snake skin, lucky hairballs, and killing a spider).
  • Racism
  • Lies occur throughout the entire story of Huck Finn. Both Huck and Jim lie for the right reasons. They lie to protect each other and others from harm. The king and duke also lie but not for good reasons. They lie to con people for their money and only do what is best for themselves.
  • Freedom
  • The story of Huck Finn is one big adventure (hence the title). Huck and Jim explore the Mississippi River in search for a new life away from their haters. They are forced to deal with daunting and thrilling tasks in order to continue on their journey to freedom.
  • Racism is a part of everyday life in Huck Finn. During this time, slavery was still occurring and all white people felt that black people were inferior to them. In the book Jim is mistreated by people just because he is black.
  • Freedom is the main goal that Huck and Jim strive for. They wanted to get away from civilization and find a better life. They fought their way through many challenging tasks, and they succeeded. Huck and Jim are finally free.
