  • French Revolution
  • Social hierarchy
  • Political Cause
  • The French Revolution begun in 1789. It was partly carried forward by Napoleon during the later expansion of the French empire.
  • Economic Cause
  • There were three Estates. The first estate was the clergy, second was the nobles and third was from the poorest peasant to the richest merchant 
  • Social Cause
  • France was ruled by a monarch. Louis XIV. He was a very difficult king from the age of 4 until his death in 1715. While he was alive, he was in contact with the clergy estate but then was part of the noble class.
  • Revolution
  • The government overspent and therefore France was in debt. This was rather unfair to the third estate because they had to suffer from more taxes. Individuals in France faced starvation around the late 1700's because of the poor harvests. 
  • Division in society of class was the direct cause. The was no form of unitry within the country therefore it became an issue. Also, individuals became aware of certain things they didn't have although they were entitled to have.
  • The French revolution ended in 1799 when Napoleon was held at the helm.
