The Civil War was fought for the equal rights of African Americans. It did accomplish this by ending slavery.
While slavery was gone, people with black skin were not treated equally
Martin Luther King Jr. wanted to change this. One of the more famous things he did was giving his "I have a dream," speech.
250,000 people came to his "I have a dream," speech in front of the Washington Monument on August 28, 1963.
Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated on April 4, 1968 by James Earl Ray while he was sitting on his balcony.
Even though Martin was murdered at an early age of 39 he changed the US for the better, being an important role in ending segregation.
