  • In this epic poem there is lots of good concurring evil. One example is when Beowulf defeats Grendel's mother. She was full of revenge for Beowulf when she figured out that he killed her only son. she went to Herot seeking revenge and turned Esher, Hrothgar's right hand man, into motionless cargo. Beowulf sunk to the bottom of the lake to Grendel's mothers cave. When he got there he tried to kill her with the Hrunting, the sword unferth gave him. But it wouldn't work so he grabbed a sword off the wall and cut off her head.

  • A slave went into a castle with a treasure guarded by a dragon. The slave stole a cup from the treasure to give to his master. The dragon saw this and became full with revenge. He went after the slave and Beowulf was determined to help. Beowulf went to defeat the dragon. The battle would be hard and Beowulf was prepared to fight it alone. But wiglaf rushed in to help. Wiglaf wanted to stay because he thought that it was more important to help a friend than to be safe. they defeated the dragon together but it was too late. Beowulf had been poisoned from the dragons poisonous fangs, and fell into a unbroken sleep. Then a stern rebuke was bound to come from the young warrior to the ones who had been coward (line 2860-2861).
