  • The decision
  • On the way to Kidderminster they encountered a newspaper which stated that England had declared war on Germany.
  • 35 Absolutists
  • The newspaper stated that THOUSANDS of men were enlisting for the arm, however...
  • The End
  • Bert had already come to resolve he believed that however many might volunteer yet I would not … God had not put me on earth to go destroying his own children
  • Brocklesby became one of 35 absolutists, who were prepared to die rather then join the war, contrary to Brocklesby declaring himself an absolutists his siblings enlisted to the war in addition to that his parents fully supported Brocklesby's choice in becoming an absolutists
  • After Brocklesby refused to enlist into the Military service, however he didn't want to work for the army as he didn't enjoy it, after he refused to work he was sent to Richmond (prison) with 16 other prisoners but he was always teased and never got on with any of the other prisoners. He was later released from prison and reunited with his family that supported him throughout the war.
