  • Symbol
  • Symbol
  • Imagery
  • Doodle is laying in a scarlet bed with scarlet furniture surrounding him. This symbolizes the fact that a scarlet ibis is not supposed to survive long just like doodle. Doodle's face was described as red in the story so I made his face red in the image.
  • Theme
  • The symbol in this picture is the scarlet Ibis in the background. It symbolizes that Doodle was not supposed to survive but he ended up being able to walk. For the images I put Doodle and his brother next to a tree because Doodle's brother was trying to teach his brother to climb a tree since he was too self-confident.
  • Dynamic Character
  • This cell shows Doodle from when his brother was showing his brother that he taught Doodle to walk. Imagery is where you can use your 5 senses to help you imagine something in a story. You can use imagery in this picture because you can feel Doodle's excitement. Also, you can feel Doodle's brother's pain because he's getting his parents happy when really he taught Doodle for his own sake. In the story, Doodle says that his parents don't know that the reason he's crying, is because he was ashamed of having a crippled brother.
  • Personal Reaction
  • The theme of this story is that you can't let yourself get too self-confident. I believe this is the theme because when Doodle's brother figured out that he could teach Doodle how to walk, he thought he could teach him anything. In the text, since Doodle's brother was getting too self-confident, Doodle ended up dying because of the actions.
  • The dynamic character in this story is Doodle's brother. He is the dynamic character because in the beginning of the story he hated Doodle and thought that he was a waste of space. In the end of the story, Doodle and his brother created a bond, starting with Doodle following him everywhere.
  • I liked how the author made the end of the story a cliff hanger on whether he's completely dead or not, but we can infer that he is. I still love to see more of that story though because it was interesting. I think Doodle's brother was a good brother but and he just let his self-confidence get a hold of him. I think this because the brother at first he did it because he was ashamed, but then he loved his brother.
