Storyboard Text

  • Abraham
  • Moses
  • Naomi
  • Abraham is central to Judaism because he is widely regarded as the father of the Jewish nation. In addition, he is seen as the exemplar of the servant who is faithful to God in all things, and who follows all commands.
  • Ruth
  • Moses is an important Prophet in the Jewish faith and heritage. Not long after Moses was born Jockeyed, Moses' mother, set her son adrift in a basket to protect him from a murderous decree to kill Hebrew children by Pharaoh.
  • David
  • Approximately ten years after the marriages, both of Naomi's sons die. Naomi is left with no blood relations, and she wishes to return to her former home in Bethlehem. Her two daughters-in-law, Orpah and Ruth, request to accompany her to Judah.
  • Yohanan ben Zaccai
  • Whenever our sages want to point to a shining example of Jewish womanhood, of self-sacrificing devotion to the higher things in life, of loyalty and modesty and excellence of character, they speak of Ruth.
  • Rather than turn bitter with his lot, David used the opportunity to develop the most profound, intimate personal relationship with God. Many of his most moving psalms, including the famous line in Psalm 23, “The Lord is my shepherd…” originated in David’s firsthand experience as shepherd of his father’s flocks
  • Johanan Ben Zakkai was a first-century CE disciple of Hillel. Johanan took a prominent part in the controversies between the Pharisees, of which group he was leader, and the Sadducees. He is said to have been responsible for a number of new enactments and to have abolished the ordeal of the wife suspected of adultery
