  • FREEDOM!
  • Booth crept forward and shot the President at point-blank range, in his head, mortally wounding him.
  • The bodyguard quickly jumped and tried to prevent Booth from escaping, grabbing and struggling with him. Booth dropped the pistol on the floor and drew a knife, stabbing him in the forearm.
  • Ouch!
  • Help! Please help!
  • Hey you! STOP!
  • Exit
  • Booth vaulted over the rail of the box down to the stage below and headed to the exit. He approached the horse he had waiting outside.
  • On 26 April 1865, Union soldiers from the 16th New York Cavalry arrived at the farm. The soldiers surrounded the barn, where Booth and Herold had been sleeping.
  • I'll wait at the backdoor.
  • We will set fire to the barn in fifteen minutes!
  • Surrender!
  • Herold surrendered while Booth refused to.
  • Booth scrambled for the back door, brandishing a rifle in one hand and a pistol in the other. A sergeant named Boston Corbett crept up behind the barn and shot Booth.
  • I will not surrender!
  • Arghhh!
