Storyboard Text

  • Species exist in populations
  • Variation in individuals is inherited
  • Individuals in population reproduce
  • Individuals in a population vary anatomically, physiologically, and behaviorally.
  • Competition
  • Variation in a population is from mutation in genes, gene flow and sexual reproduction.
  • Survival
  • Mates are chosen based on biological factors ( i.e. how they look, act, etc.) and young share similarities and show differences from their parents.
  • Over time environments can shift
  • Resources are limited ( i.e food shelter from predators, mates etc.)
  • Individuals with traits that allow them to survive and reproduce, pass on their genes.
  • As habitats change some variations in a population allow some organisms to survive and reproduce, passing on their successful traits (genes), other individuals in the population die.
