The exposition of the story is when Rainsford falls off his yacht into the ocean, and must swim to the Island to survive.
The rising action of the story is when Zaroff is telling Rainsford of his "new animal" he likes to hunt. The suspense in the story is growing at this point of the story.
The climax of the story is when Rainsford finds out that Zaroff hunts humans. Zaroff then puts Rainsford outside to hunt him.
The falling action of the story is when Rainsford is able to escape Zaroff by swimming into the ocean. Rainsford wins against Zaroff.
The resolution of the story is when Rainsford returns to Zaroff's house to kill him after defeating his hunting challenge.
