Storyboard Text

  • The story of Beowulf all started out in a place called Herot. Herot was a mead-hall where warriors and King Hrothgar would gather to drink and listen to stories told by scops. Herot was invaded by Grendel, the descendent of the devil. Every night, Grendel would invade Denmark and kill and terrorize the Danes. Many years later, a warrior named Beowulf, heard about King Hrothgar's terror. Beowulf decides to sail to Denmark and fight Grendel. This is where the epic poem Beowulf begins.
  • Oh Beowulf, I have not seen you since you were a boy, when I did a favor for your father. My people and I would love to have you come and fight Grendel. Let us have a feast at once, in your honor.
  • Hello, King Hrothgar. I am Beowulf, descendent of Edgetho and I have come to fight Grendel.
  • The Danes then had a feast to honor Beowulf and his men before they went to fight Grendel. That night, the Danes and Geats soldiers slept in Herot. Everyone was sound asleep when Grendel came, everyone except Beowulf. He was ready to fight. Grendel picked up the man in the first bed and ate him. Then he tried to pick up Beowulf, and Beowulf fought back. Beowulf bent and tore at his fingers. Grendel tried to escape, but had no luck. The walls and ceiling shook during the fight. "He twisted in pain, and the bleeding sinews deep in his shoulder snapped, muscle and bone split and broke." This is showing that Beowulf is an epic hero because of his strength to tear an arm off. After his arm was torn off, Grendel managed to escape back to the swamp where he would soon die. Beowulf then hung Grendel's arm from the ceiling to show his victory.
  • We would all like to thank Beowulf for ending Grendel's reign of terror. To celebrate, I would like to give treasures to Beowulf and tonight, we will all sleep in Herot.
  • I am Grendel's mother and I am here to avenge my son!
  • *Later that night*
  • You won't get away with taking the King's most trusted advisor and closest friend!
  • I have now killed both the shepherded of evil and his mother! I didn't even use Unferth, I used a sword I found on the wall to kill his mother. I will now cut off Grendel's head and bring it back with me to the King and Queen to show my victory!
